Brief Historical Overview

Ballyfermot Community Church is part of the Elim Pentecostal Church which began in the town of Monaghan, Ireland in 1915 and is itself a part of the worldwide Charismatic or Pentecostal stream of the Christian Church.

After the spirittual breakthrough that occurred in Monaghan in 1915 with evangelist George Jeffreys, the work of Elim began to spread and develop rapidly under the anointing and the blessing of the Lord. Elim Churches were quickly established in Northern Ireland, England, Scotland, Wales and beyond. But when the Irish Free State was set up in 1922, Elim had only one church south of ther border and that was in the town of its origin, Monaghan.

It was not until much later, in 1957, that Pastor Gordon Hills came to the city of Dublin to plant a church there. Under his leadership and minsitry a church was established ther for the glory of God.

It would be another 20 years before the next Elim church was established in the South of Ireland. After evangelistic outreaches from the Dublin church in 1976 and 1977, supported by teams from our churches in Northern Ireland a church was started in the small, picturesque town of Westport, County Mayo, on the far western coast of Ireland.

Since 1977, Elim has continued to grow steadily in the Repuiblic of Ireland, to the point where we now have nine centres of witness in nine counties across the country. You can learn more about these churches at

Ballyfermot Community Church

In September 1992 BCC was started by John and Vicky McEvoy after a series of six prayer meetings that were held in the West County Hotel in Chapelizod. The first meeting together as a church took place on a Sunday morning in November in a small rented room over a flower shop in Ballyfermot. Since then we have been able to move into our own premises and consequently have been able to increas and improve the range of our activities and services.

Our Church, which has grown since those early days, is made up of people of all ages and cultures. We are ordinary people who have found forgiveness, new life and peace with God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

As a church we take our faith seriously and continually seek to live our lives by the Bible and the Holy Spirit in order that we may please God and become a benefit and a blessing to our local community, our city and our nation.
